Towards the end of my time in the city I was wanting to change my path and I wanted to give God some years, but I wasn’t sure I was qualified to do anything useful outside of finance. That all changed when I heard about a vacant position, Manager of the Caring for Ex-Offenders team. I had some experience of volunteering in prisons, so I decided to apply and was successful. Our mission was to settle people leaving prison into their local church, ultimately reducing likelihood of them re-offending. Eighteen months later I joined Alpha UK Prisons. Our team has trained hundreds of volunteers to run Alpha in prisons and thousands of prisoners have completed Alpha while in prison. I’m very blessed to be able to work with both prisons and the churches that commit time to serving them, it’s amazing to hear the stories of changed lives. Jesus is of course already in our prisons but through Alpha I like to think we are making some introductions to Him. The team culture and possibilities to learn and grow at SPTC and HTB have been extraordinary. I was supported by SPTC as I completed a Master’s degree part-time alongside work. I’ve also had the privilege of attending conferences and courses that have grown my skillset and allowed me to learn in the workplace environment. There have been many opportunities to learn new skills and work on different projects, such as running School of Theology and teaching on introductory theology programmes at the college, that have helped me hone my skill set and vocation. I am the Course Lead on the School of Theology which is an introductory course to theology and I love any teaching I get to do, as well as chatting and meeting our wonderful students each term. I love working for an organisation where staff can meet, pray, and worship together.
